Facebook, the world social media network has made the removal of objectionable posts even more difficult in India, as the company has made it mandatory to furnish a legal notice along with the post removal request.
According to Deccan Chronicles, Facebook latest move was pointed out by Global Policy head of Facebook Monica Bickert indicating that the company has changed its service.
As per the new rules, a post will now only be taken down on counts of illegality when a government or in other case a legal document is provided along with the appeal. And that’s not all after the submission process is complete, Facebook will scrutinise the document under its legal guidelines.
According to Economic Times, Bickert said "We have changed our process. So now, before we restrict content in India for illegality, we require that the government submit legal process to us and we scrutinise that with our legal teams,"
Whereas, no content will be blocked, if someone outside the government flags it offensive, she said.
"We would not restrict the content if somebody in the community, somebody outside the government, flagged that content, "Bickert added.
The move came after the Indian Supreme Court read down Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 last year, which states to say that a non-government request for taking down online content should be accompanied by a court order.
India was second on the list after USA, with 5,561 requests for user data at 5,561, after the US, which made 19,235 such demands.
