SPI-based weekly inflation decreases by 0.34pc

imageISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation for the week ended on January 7 for the combined income group decreased by 0.34 percent as compared to the previous week.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 218.12 points against 218.86 points registered in the previous week, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

However, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 3.61 percent.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-08=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8000 was also decreased by 0.32 percent as it went down from 209.50 points in the previous week to 208.82 points in the week under review.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12,001-18,000 and 18,001-35,000 decreased by 0.33 percent, 0.34 percent, 0.35 percent and 0.33 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 13 items registered decrease, while that of 11 items increased with the remaining 29 items' prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included tomato, potatoes, kerosene oil, chicken farm (live), hi-speed diesel, LPG (11kg) cylinder, eggs (hen), onions, pulse moong (washed), mustard oil, gas charges, pulse masoor (washed) and vegetable ghee.

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included banana, sugar, garlic, cooked beef, pulse mash (washed), fire wood, pulse gram (washed), mutton, red chilly, gur and wheat flour (bag).

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included wheat, rice basmati, rice irri-6, bread plain, beef, milk fresh, curd, milk powder, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (tin), salt powder, tea, cooked dal (plate), tea prepared cup, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn, gorgette, gents chappal, gents sandal, ladies sandal, electric charges, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, petrol telephone call and bath soap.
