Two-member SC bench refers Punjabi language case to CJP

Published Updated

imageISLAMABAD: The two-member bench of the apex court on Monday referred the Punjabi language case to Chief Justice of Pakistan for formation of three-member bench.

The two-member bench headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim heard the case regarding implementation of Punjabi and other regional languages as official languages of the Punjab province.

During the course of proceedings, the Petitioner told the bench that Punjab government did not take any step to implement Punjabi and other regional languages in the province. He said that the apex court in its order in Urdu language case did not mention anything about the Punjabi language.

On this Justice Amir Hani Muslim remarked that the apex court issued order in Urdu language case some days ago and time would be required for implementation of order.

Justice Dost Muhammad Khan remarked that if someone did not implement court orders then the contempt of court proceedings could be initiated against them.

Later, the bench referred the matter to CJP for formation of three-member bench.
