imageGoogle has revealed the next version of its mobile operating system which will be called Android Marshmallow (M). Google is known for naming their operating system after sweet treats like Jelly Bean, Ice-Cream Sandwich, KitKat, Lollipop and now Marshmallow.

The new operating system, which was first unveiled at Google I/O on 28 May 2015, is expected to launch publically in the third quarter of 2015. Google claims that their latest OS will be strongest among the other Android OS available in market. They are bringing in lots of improvement in their upcoming technology.

According to foreign media reports, a new feature called Doze detects when the device's motion sensor is inactive and cuts down on the level of background app activity. Google claims that it can double the device's battery life. Android Marshmallow also brings support for a new type of USB connector called USB-C, which Google claims charges devices three to five times faster than the current microUSB chargers.

The developers have also announced that Marshmallow would support fingerprint identification. While some manufacturers already build this support into their devices, the announcement confirmed Marshmallow will offer system wide support for a fingerprint scanner.

A new feature called Android Auto Backup and Restore for Apps will be used in conjunction with Google Drive to automatically backup app data and settings with a file size of 25 MB or less.

For now, the latest Android version is available on Nexus 5, 6 and some Sony devices including Xperia Z Ulta, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z3, Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia T2 Ultra and the Xperia T3.

The official release of Android M is expected in September this year.
