KABUL: Afghan officials say militants have attacked a NATO convoy in southern Afghanistan, setting at least seven fuel tankers ablaze.

According to a local official, the tankers were torched in the town of Shahr-e Safa in Zabul Province, adding that one truck driver was also killed, Press TV reported.
A Taliban spokesman claims the militant group has carried out the attack, torching 28 NATO fuel trucks.
Earlier, around five tankers carrying fuel for NATO and US forces in Afghanistan were set ablaze on the outskirts of the capital, Kabul.
Militants have stepped up attacks on NATO supply convoys in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan over the past weeks. During this period large numbers of NATO trucks have been torched in Pakistan alone.
The security situation has been deteriorating across Afghanistan over the past few years.
