RAWALPINDI: Commander, US CENTCOM, Gen. Lloyd Austin called on Secretary Defence Lt. Gen. (Retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak here on Monday and acknowledged the continued commitment of Pakistan towards peace.
While expressing condolences on the sad incident of Peshawar School Attack, Gen Lloyd Austin said he is fully cognizant of the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan Army and its people in the continuing war on terror.
According to Press release issued from Ministry of Defence the visiting delegation comprised ODRP Chief, Political Advisor and Communications Director from the American side while senior officials attended from the Pakistan side.
The Secretary Defence informed the visiting commander that Pakistan plays stabilizing role in the draw down of forces from Afghanistan.
"We are the fulcrum of security for South Asia. Our importance in this regard needs to be understood. Stability and security of the region is linked to the stability of Pakistan," he added.
Muhammad Alam Khattak said that Pakistan has made sincere efforts for helping Afghan government to stabilize and has facilitated peace process in Afghanistan.
Pakistan and USA have a history of bilateral relations which have evolved on the principles of mutual respect, shared common interest and understanding of each others perspective.
Pakistan wants peace in the region and is making an effort to make its borders peaceful.
"Our desire for peace should be facilitated by our friends so that our efforts reap fruits," the Secretary Defence added.
The meeting was significant in the wake of current scenario. It ended with the hope that the USA will continue understanding the difficulties faced by Pakistan.
