KARACHI: All is set for polling for two seats of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly in Karachi on June 26.
According to an official of the Provincial Election Commission, 11 candidates will contest for Constituency No. LA-XXXVI Valley-I and 12 others will compete for LA-XXX Jammu and others-I Constituency.
The candidates for LA-XXX include Aftab Ahmed, Javed Iqbal, Sardar Abdul Rasheed Daar, Sardar Maqsood-uz-Zaman Khan, Syed Shahzad Gilani, Abdul Hameede, Abdul Rashid Mirza, Muhammed Shahzad, Muhammed Tahir Khokhar, Muhammad Maroof Hussain, Malik Majid and Nadeem Ahmed. Candidates for LA-XXXVI include Khawaja Ghulam Rasool, Said Hameed Abbasi, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Abdul Hafeez Butt, Abdul Rehman, Ghulam Nabi Kashmiri, Muhammed Iqbal Kashmiri, Muhammed Saleem Butt, Mukhtar Lone, Nazeer Ahmed Butt and Yasmeen Butt.
The number of polling stations in five districts for Consituency No. LA-XXXVI Valley-I are 24 and 3,694 registered voters and for LA- XXX Jammu and others-I Constituency, the polling stations are 81 while number of registered voters is 25,436.
The electorate in Azad Kashmir will elect a new Legislative Assembly. In the 49-member house, the voters elect 41 members, and the remaining eight seats are reserved for women and technocrats and will be elected by the house.
Meanwhile, the officials said that police will remain deployed at all the polling stations to prevent any untoward incident.
The polling will be conducted from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.
