Weekly inflation increases by 0.51pc

marketISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on June 16, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000 has registered increase of 0.51 per cent over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 302.75 points as against 301.20 points registered in the previous week, according to the figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

SPI for the combined group registered increase by 0.56 per cent as it went up from 89.56 points in the previous week to 291.18 points in the week under review.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 15.88 percent.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income group ranging from Rs.3001-5000, Rs.5001-12000 and above Rs. 12000 increased by 0.54 per cent, 0.57 and 0.52 respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 5 items registered decrease, while that of 27 items increase with the remaining 21 items prices remained unchanged.

The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included bananas, masoor pulse (washed), garlic, mash pulse (washed) and red chillies.

The items which registered increase in their prices included tomatoes, egg hen (farm), chicken (farm), cigarettes, potatoes, L.P.G (11 kg cylinder), bah soap, sugar, voil printed, onions, rice basmati (broken), moong pulse (washed), lawn, mustard oil, beef, rice IRRI-6, coarse latha, gram pulse (washed), curd, shirting, wheat floor (average quality), mutton, wheat (average quality), gur, firewood, vegetable ghee (loose) and milk fresh.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included bread plan (middle size), milk powder, vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), salt powdered, tea packet, tea (prepared), cooked beef plate, cooked dal plate, sandal gents, sandal ladies, kerosene, electricity bulb, match bux, washing soap, gas charges up to 3.3719 MMBTU, electricity charges 1-100, petrol, diesel and telephone local call.
