KP to launch eight projects for hydel generation Rs1.32b allocated

PESHAWAR: To get self-sufficiency in energy sector, the KPK Government has decided to start construction work on eight mega projects from its own resources that would generate 595 mega watt electricity in fiscal year 2011-12.

Presenting budget for fiscal year 2011-12 in the House, the Finance Minister said that three mega projects including Machai, Reenola and Mataltan with the assistance of Asian Development Bank besides eight mega projects, would be launched. Work on feasibility studies for building of 13 hydle power houses would be started, he added.

Likewise, formal work on two gigantic projects include Mataltan 84 MW and Lawi (69MW) would start in December this year. These projects after completion would not only reduce load shedding but would also generate Rs. Six billion revenue.

He said Rs. 1.32 billion (One billion and 32 crore rupees) were allocated for hydel generation sector in fiscal year 2011-12 which is 89 percent higher than the ongoing fiscal.
