USC finalizes Ramzan Package

imageISLAMABAD: Utility Stores Corporation (USC) of Pakistan has finalized Ramzan Package worth Rs2 billion to provide essential daily commodities at subsidized rates for the masses during the upcoming Holy month of Ramzan as part of relief announced by the PML-N government in Budget 2013-14.

In this regard a meeting of the zonal GM and managers have been convened with Acting Managing Director of the corporation in the chair to review and finalize the Ramzan Package through USC outlets across the country, said spokesman of the corporation.

Talking to APP here on Wednesday, he said that more 3500 different items including flour, rice, ghee, cooking oil pulses and beverages would be available on cheaper rates as compared to the open market.

He said that this year the corporation was negotiating with the vendors for further slashing down the prices besides procuring the quality products from the market to pass on the relief to the common man during the blessed month.

Besides, the existing 6000 stores arrangements is being finalized to open mobile stores in rural and far flung areas to provide relief for the poor living in these areas.

For keeping the supply smooth through out the month, the management of the corporation has directed the field formation and zonal managements to take extra measures including maintaining the stock, he added.

He further informed that they was also directed to hire more warehouses and engage transport if it required before the starting of the holy month adding that no mal functioning would be tolerated.

The spokesman said that besides existing 6000 outlets across the country the corporation has established mega stores in big cites including Islamabad, Lahore, Fasilabad, Pashwar, Multan and Muzaffarabad.

The zonal managers were also asked to obtain viable location in other cities in to establish mega stores to enhance the outreach of the corporation to facilitate the people, he added.

The corporation has also farmed vigilance teams to observe transparency and keep the supply smooth besides the districts administrations were also activated to monitoring the situation during Ramzan.

Replying to a question, he said that last year the sale target of the USC was Rs70 billion but this year the target has been set at Rs90 billion keeping in view of the confidence reposed by the people of the quality and low prices of items provided by the corporation.
