China gives step-by-step account of Galwan stand-off

Five days after the clash between the two troops, China has given a step-by-step account that led to the deadly face off between their soldiers and Indian soldiers at Galwan Valley.

In a series of tweet on Saturday, Chinese Spokesperson Lijian Zhao gave details which led to the clash between the two sides in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed.

He said for several years, China has been patrolling the Galwan Valley which is located on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the west section of the China-India boundary.

However, Zhao continued that since April, the Indian troops have been continuously building roads, bridges and other facilities at the LAC. He said despite several complaints and protests by China, India continued to make provocations.

He further said that India deliberately made provocations in an attempt to unilaterally change the status quo of control and management by trespassing into China's territory and building barricades.

The spokesperson said in order to ease the situation, China and India stayed in close communication through military and diplomatic channels. Adding that India withdrew the personnel who crossed the LAC and demolished the facilities.

He said during a commander-level meeting between the border troops, India promised it would not cross the estuary of Galwan river to patrol and build facilities. However, Zhao said, India in violation of the agreement crossed the LAC for 'deliberate provocation when the situation in the Galwan Valley was already easing'.

He said not only the Indian troops crossed the LAC, but they even violently attacked the Chinese officers and soldiers who went there for negotiation, 'thus triggering fierce physical conflicts and causing casualties'.

The spokesperson urged that another commander-level meeting should happen as soon as possible. " China hopes that India will work with us, follow faithfully the important consensus reached between the two leaders, abide by the agreements reach between the two governments," Zhao said.
