imageCAIRO: Five supporters of ousted president Mohamed Mursi and one policeman were killed in Egypt on Friday, as clashes erupted in several cities between Islamist protesters and security forces.

The five were killed in clashes with security forces in the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya, security officials said.

In the capital, a police conscript was killed when a checkpoint was ambushed by armed men, a security official in Cairo said.

The violence came as Islamists began marches in several cities in what they dubbed a "Friday of anger" to protest against the killing of hundreds of Mursi loyalists following a security crackdown on Wednesday.

Gunfire was heard at the sites of at least two protests in Cairo as Mursi loyalists took to the streets in several parts of the capital.

Others were out in the northern city of Alexandria, in Beni Sueif and Fayoum, south of Cairo, and in the Red Sea resort town of Hurghada.

The interior ministry said it would take tough measures, including the use of live fire, if protesters attacked government buildings.
