After much wait, Samsung finally unveils its first ever foldable phone

After many years of wait and speculations, Samsung has finally revealed its much anticipated foldable smartphone.

Finally putting an end to all the rumors and speculations, the South Korean tech giant revealed its foldable smartphone on Wednesday at its Developer Conference.

The device, which is currently unnamed, is for now a prototype and contains a regular 4.58-inch display on the front for normal smartphone usage when the device is closed. When the device is unfolded, the interior opens up like a book, providing a 7.3-inch screen that turns the phone to a tablet.

As per Business Insider, the foldable display of the phone is termed as ‘Infinity Flex Display’. Samsung informed it used panel bending tech, and a special foldable adhesive in order to make sure the display stayed in both modes of the phone. The display is supposedly super thin, durable and flexible.

Samsung worked with Google in order to create a special version of Android for the phone. The phone contains a new feature called ‘App Continuity’ that will let the user use an app continuously even when the phone is folded or unfolded. When turned into a tablet display, the app would automatically enlarge itself to adjust accordingly. Samsung also informed about its ‘Multi-active Window’ feature that will let user have up to three open and usable apps simultaneously.

Samsung did not share much information about the device's availability or price. Although, the tech giant said it will begin mass production of the device in coming months. However, Android VP Dave Burke mentioned that the phone will launch next year, as per Engadget.
