Despite criticism, Snapchat CEO not sorry about app’s new update

Snapchat’s latest redesign caused an uproar and users started to express their dislike on social media apps, while some even threatening to delete the app. Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, however, has made it pretty clear that he is not at all sorry for the update.

Talking at Goldman Sachs’ Technology and Internet conference, Spiegel declared that he himself prefers the new version of the app and claimed that the users will prefer it too once they get used to it. “I feel way more attached to the service than I ever have,” he said.

According to Business Insider, the new redesign of the app has separated the content by friends and the content by media outlets, brands and celebrities, which Spiegel described as a split between ‘communication’ with people you know and ‘broadcast’ with people you don’t know. According to him, this separation of contents brings more clarity to the service.

Oh Snap! Users raise serious criticism on Snapchat’s latest update

The 27-year-old Spiegel believes that these complaints and criticism in turn validate the changes made and that he is in fact happy with the reaction, even the negative one. “We’re excited about what we’re seeing so far. Even the complaints we’re seeing reinforce the philosophy."

“For example, one of the complaints we got was ‘Aww...I used to feel like this celebrity was my friend and now they don’t feel like my friend anymore.’ And we’re like, ‘Exactly. They’re not your friend.’ The frustrations we are seeing really validate those changes,” Mashable quoted Spiegel.
