An official of Pakistan Railways here on Tuesday told APP that to overcome the present crisis situation, RR administration under the strategy started to repair existing locomotives and procurement of new locomotives through revenue/PSDP budget, bank loans, as well as, private sector participation.
Railway is making efforts to get sufficient funds from the government for rehabilitation of required locomotives, rolling stock, and purchase of spares parts.
PR is also inviting private sector to participate in different activities of it including rehabilitation of aging locomotives, development of Dry Ports and commercial Management of Passenger trains.
New agreement has been signed with PSO for uninterrupted supply of fuel to trains.
Two trains Shalimar and Business Express have been outsourced and efforts are underway to outsource additional trains.
He said introduction of new signalling system on the network to minimize detentions and would help saving fuel expenditure.
Rail fares on both freight and passenger side have been increased, although much less then proportionately to increase in the prices of POL and POL products.
