Over 100 shops gutted in Empress Market fire

A spokesman of Edhi Foundation said that no injuries or any harm to the people were reported from the spot.

The fire, according to Abdul Barri Kakar, the chairman of Empress Market Shopkeepers Association, has caused immense damage to the shops, but fortunately there was no loss of life.

He said that the fire broke out at around 4 am early on Sunday.

A spokesperson of Fire Brigade Saddar Station said that at least 16 vehicles were used to douse the fire that engulfed the shops. The fire spread rapidly as goods stored there were mainly of plastic and rubber material of various makes, he said.

He said that the fire has been brought under control.
