ABB claims $900m Indian power contract

The company said in a statement that it would carry out the project with Indian state-owned power company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

"ABB... has been selected by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd to deliver an ultra high voltage transmission system, worth about $900 million," it added.

The link will carry hydro-electric power from northeastern India to the city of Agra.

It will be capable of supplying enough electricity to serve up to 90 million people based on India's average national consumption, according to the engineering giant.
