Tom Cruise gets off cheaply in divorce from Katie Holmes

No spousal support, no lump sum, nothing but the sweet, delicious smell of freedom. However, “Tom must pay Katie $400,000 a year in child support. That comes to $33,333.33 a month. The money will be paid by electronic transfer. Tom must pay Suri's support for the next 12 years — until she turns 18. All told, that comes to $4.8 million. Tom must also pay Suri's expenses, including medical, dental, insurance, education, college and extracurricular costs.”

Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise, 50, in June after six years of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” She has also requested legal custody and primary residential custody over 6-year-old Suri.

In divorce settlement, Suri is barred from being sent away to any boarding or residential school. Sources say this was a protection Holmes sought to keep Suri away from Scientology centres.

For now, Holmes is residing with their daughter in a Manhattan apartment. Both Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were married in Italy, 2006.
