OGDCL makes solid efforts for remote areas uplift

"We have kept the momentum up on both fronts-social and production, thus one can say the company is playing its due role in the country's development process being a state-run entity," the company's official said.

The source said the company adequately compensated and rewarded the people of those areas where hydrocarbon resources were explored, spending due share of its profits on their welfare.

Responding to a question, the official said the company as the largest exploration and production company catered to the needs of the people of the entire country, while other companies engaged in at few sites. So, one should not establish perception that another company provided more funds to the people such as land compensation, the official said.

The official said, at a cost of over Rs 93 million, the OGDCL carried out several social welfare schemes in Khyber Pakhtunkhaw.

"We do take care of people living around the company's fields, in KPK from 2007 to 2010 an amount of Rs 93.874 was spent besides recurring expenditure of Rs 118.166 million on these development projects", a company's official said.

The official said in Karak district, the company established a technical training school at a cost of Rs 0.962 million to equip the youth of the area with market skills, enabling them for earning respectable livelihood for their families.

Other schemes, the official said, included provision of biber glass water tanks to government Girls high school Shakardara in addition to construction of water storage tanks, provision of hand pumps to locals of Bohri Sagri near Chanda Oilfield, construction of water storage tanks at village Faqiri Banda.

On ensuring infrastructure, the company constructed Shakardara to Karapa road, check post-a gateway to Shakardara, internal Shakarara market road, Katcha track of village Janak.

The source said in health sector, the company had also taken several initiatives including holding free eye camps to provide free of cost health facilities to the locals.

The company also provided free medicines for the patients from poor families through Tahsil Headquarters hospital.

The progressive trend in the company's production of oil and gas was giving testimony to the company's dedication in face of energy challenges, the official said.

"These operational and financial results have been possible largely due to the dedicated efforts of the Company's employees under the guidance of the Managing Director Mohammad Naeem Malik and support of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources," the official said.
