KARACHI: London’s Olympic stadium, which can accommodate 80,000 people at a time and will host the opening ceremony of the Olympics later this Friday, has been listed among the six top buildings for the annual architecture award.

According to media sources, “the design clearly expresses the main elements of the stadium, distinguishing between the white main structural elements, the black secondary structures and the precast concrete of the seating tiers and plinth to create a striking and legible ensemble.”

The structure of the Olympics stadium is simple yet elegant, and clearly distinguishes between the white main elements and black secondary structures.

The stadium’s fellow nominees are the Hepworth Wakefield Gallery in Wakefield, northern England; the Lyric Theatre in Belfast; Maggie’s Centre, a cancer support centre in Glasgow; New Court, a Rothschild Bank building in London; and the Sainsbury Laboratory at Cambridge University, eastern England.

The winner of the best architecture award will be announced at the annual awards ceremony on to be held on October 13 in Manchester.
