WAPDA to complete 381MW hydel projects by year end

Official sources in WAPDA told APP here Friday that Jinnah (96 MW), Allai Khwar (121 MW), Duber Khwar (130 MW) hydropower projects, Satpara (17 MW) and Gomal Zam dams (17 MW) would be completed by December.

They said that Allai Khwar was located on Allai Khwar River, near Besham District Battagram while Duber Khwar project was being constructed on Khan Khwar River near Pattan District Kohistan.

Jinnah hydropower project is located on the right side of existing Jinnah Barrage, 5 km from Kalabagh town in District Mianwal and according to PC-I it would cost Rs. 13546.8 million with Foreign Exchange Component of Rs. 6608.221 Million.

Satpara dam is being constructed on Satpara Nullah downstream of Satpara Lake with an estimated cost of Rs.4480.021 million.

The project would generate 17.36 MW of hydropower besides irrigating 15.536 acres of land and supply 3.1 million gallons per day drinking water to Skardu city.

Similary, Gomal Zam Dam site (Khajuri Kach) is being constructed on Gomal River in South Waziristan Agency, west of Tank and D.I.Khan Districts of Khyber Pakhtun Khwa (KPK) Province and would cost Rs.12829 million including Rs.4964 FEC.

They said that the project would provide 316,232 Acre-feet of water annually to irrigate about 163,086 acres and generate 17.4 MW cheap hydel electricity.
