Out of grant of Rs 1.4 billion, the first installment of Rs.300 million has been paid by WASA to HESCO and it is hoped that HESCO management will avoid discontinuation of power connections at the installations of WASA as the outstanding dues will be cleared through regular installments.
This was informed by Sindh Minister for Fisheries Zahid Ali Bhurgari, while talking to media persons at the inauguration of three days long Polio Eradication Campaign by administering anti-polio drops to children of under five years age here at Taluka Hospital Qasimabad on Saturday.
In view of the payment of the outstanding arrears to employees of WASA, Zahid Ali Bhurgari who is also the President PPP Hyderabad District informed that a bailout package has been prepared and submitted to Sindh Chief Minister for approval and after that the management of WASA will be able to clear outstanding dues of employees and also resolve other financial issues.
In view of expected heavy rainfalls, the minister informed that the district administration Hyderabad is implementing the comprehensive contingency plan which included the de-silting of the open drains and sewerage lines as well as activation of all faulty pumping machine of WASA Pumping Station. Besides, standby generators have also been made available at the pumping station to continue water disposal operation in case of power failure, he added.
The minister informed that though HESCO management has assured of carrying out no load shedding during rainfalls, however the district administration has also adopted alternate arrangements to ensure the availability of electricity at the pumping stations.
About Polio Eradication Campaign which began in Hyderabad, the minister informed that over seven hundred vaccination teams have been formed to immunize anti-polio drops to children of under five years age by visiting door to door or at the fixed and transit points of the district. A task force comprising two thousand persons has been engaged in vaccination and monitoring the campaign, he said.
