07 Jul, 2012

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the situation demands the appointment of a reputable businessman to head TDAP an organization supposed to have a dynamic approach to the needs of time rather than a bureaucrat with a stiff attitude.

"The private sector expert would be able to give good advice for framing of policy with beneficial commercial angle in the best interest of the country. Pakistan is facing tough competition from neighbouring countries and to overcome the situation we need the help of the business community".

He said there was a need for prompt decisions to benefit from opportunities. He added that the business community had developed trade links with their Chinese counterparts and would be happy to have a businessman to head TDAP who could understand the importance of enhancing trade with China and benefit from Chinese collaboration.

He said TDAP plays an important role in promotion of exports and is an arm of the ministry of commerce and needs to be headed by a person who means business.

Likewise the Union has urged the PM to also appoint heads of Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) from the private sector to enable these organizations to handle the affairs with the expertise of the experienced businessmen who are flexible and intelligent enough to comprehend the demands and challenges of the changing world.
