Published Updated

Talking to Radio Pakistan, Dr Gulfraz said Tajikistan is in a position to generate surplus hydel power.

He said that Pakistan could benefit from power generated in Tajikistan as only a narrow land strip of the Afghan region Wakhan separates both the countries.

He said that only 350 kilometres transmission line could be laid to transmit power to the national grid of Pakistan.

To a question whether Thar coal could be used to generate electricity in Pakistan, he said the study is underway to determine whether electricity could be generated by using Thar coal or not.

He said that the project takes three years to complete and therefore it seems difficult to get electricity from Thar Coal project before 2015.
