LAHORE: Power shortfall has reached to 7000MW due to short supply of fuel to power plants.

According to NTDC sources, KAPCO, Orient, HUBCO and Halmore are facing shortfall of 876MW, 213MW, 300MW and 207MW due to fuel shortage. Meanwhile, oil stock position at all RFO plants is critically low.

The sources said demand for power has reached to 17896MW against generation of 10421MW. Meanwhile, power generation through hydra, thermal and IPPs remained 4206MW, 1330MW and 4885MW respectively. Power supply to KESC stood at 670MW.

Rising shortfall of electricity has put domestic and commercial consumers into a troublesome situation. Especially, withdrawal of exemption from load shedding to textile industry has put production capacities at halt and recent negotiations between the textile representatives and government proved fruitless. The government has made clear that it was not in a position to extend exemption from load shedding to industry in a situation when gap between demand and supply was at record level.
