Pakistani businessmen asked to explore trade opportunities with Cuba

"Pakistani business community can have a chance to build bridges with participants from seventy countries which are taking part in this mega event," the ambassador said while talking to a delegation of businessmen.

Jesus Zenen Buergo Concepcion said that Pakistani textiles, sports goods, surgical instruments, leather goods and rice are needed in Cuba.

He said that he will push the Cuba Chamber of Commerce to create linkages and exchange of delegations with Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).

He said that China was Cuba's second largest trading partner and the country wants enhanced trade ties with Pakistan.

Health and medical education system of Cuba was considered one of the best in the world and we desire to upgrade Pakistani system to that level, he said.

He said that Cuba have offered biggest ever fully paid scholarship programme to Pakistan under which 1,000 students will become doctors by 2015 adding that they would be country's ambassadors in Pakistan.

The ambassador said relations between Pakistan and Cuba were based on mutual trust and confidence, adding the mutual trust must be converted into trade and economic cooperation.

He said Pakistan is victim of disinformation spread by foreign media which is contrary to the ground realities.

The ambassador thanked Islamabad for supporting a UN resolution for lifting of embargoes on Cuba.

The businessmen delegation that met the Ambassador of Cuba included Chairman Coordination FPCCI Atif Akram Sheikh, Chairman Media FPCCI Malik Sohail and others

On the occasion, the FPCCI representatives demanded transfer of medical related technology and training facility to local technicians besides enhancing trade relations between the two countries to exploit the existing potential.

They also assured the ambassador that Pakistani businessmen will participate in the upcoming Cuban expo.
