  • Zuniga who was already suffering from respiratory problems even before the pandemic, was not seriously affected by COVID-19.

Juana Zuniga, 111, has become the oldest patient in Chile to recover from coronavirus which she contracted after an outbreak at her care home.

Zuniga, 111, was the oldest resident at the facility when she caught the virus alongside 25 others. Zuniga, who will turn 112 in July, was already suffering from respiratory problems even before the pandemic, was not seriously affected by COVID-19, international media reported.

"She did not have any symptoms and very few bouts of fever, which was good," director of the care home, María Paz Sordo said. The director further said Zuniga was moved to an isolation ward for 28 days, adding that it was the most difficult thing taking Zuniga out of her habitat.

On May 10, she recovered from the novel virus, making her the oldest person in Chile to do so.
