LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) has revived the Directorate of Vigilance and notified appointment of Mehmood Ali Lashari as Director Vigilance. Business Recorder has learnt.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Railway had established directorate of vigilance in 2001 when former ISI chief Qazi Javed Ashraf took the charge as the railways minister and inducted many retired Army officers as well as civilian included his nephew as Director on the heavy perk and privileges besides heavy salary package.

Later former federal minister for Raiwlay Sheikh Rashid had abolished the vigilance directorate terming it great financial burden on the national exchequer. The sources in the Railway Headquarter told this scribe that government has now decided to revive the vigilance directorate to control the workers strike and their other negative activities. The sources further said that the vigilance Directorate, in the beginning, will be assigned to check the workers, officers' performance, illegal and immoral activity in department, check the ticket less passengers, transfer and posting matters.
