More than 100 Pakistanis have died from coronavirus in New York

In US more than 100 Pakistanis have died from coronavirus in the New York region where at least the 8,000 people have died from the disease.

Pakistan’s Consul General Ayesha Ali has said information collected from hospitals, funeral homes and families indicate that more than 100 Pakistanis have died from the novel coronavirus in New York-New Jersey region.

Pakistan Embassy’s spokesperson Zoobia Masood told DAWN that some Pakistanis are also believed to have died in other states. "We are still collecting information about how this disease has affected the Pakistani-American community," the spokesperson added. Officials believe the death toll will increase as more information filters in.

US's death toll surpassed that of Spain, with almost 18,000 fatalities from the virus, which were reported by Friday afternoon. The coronavirus cases in US topped topped 500,000 the same day.
