  • Pakistan's telecom regulator informed that hackers are attacking mobile phones and computers by sending malware through coronavirus related materials.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned the public to be vigilant against hackers and scammers in wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Pakistan's telecom regulator informed that hackers are attacking mobile phones and computers by sending malware through coronavirus related materials. “Hackers are infecting mobile phones and computers by sending Malware through coronavirus related scam emails, messages, pictures ads, files, documents or links,” alerted PTA in its message to the public.

“Therefore, stay safe and browse only authentic websites for obtaining credible news related to coronavirus,” the authority added.

Taking care of one’s computer systems and mobile devices have become even more important nowadays as people are compelled to remain in their homes amid the growing spread of coronavirus in the country.

The internet usage in Pakistan has increased by 15 percent in a matter of days, owing to an increase in online activities by educational institutions and businesses and, ‘work from home’ policy adopted by individuals and organizations.

However, “there is sufficient internet capacity available in the country to meet the growing demands of the future. PTA has been closely monitoring the internet usage patterns so as to ensure that fast and efficient telecom services remain available to the consumers in this difficult time,” PTA has said.
