Govt to change power sector situation in Pakistan, says Nadeem Babar

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Petroleum Nadeem Babar has said that the government is going to change the power sector situation, as the current condition is not viable for Pakistan power security.

Addressing a conference in Islamabad, Babar said that in the coming years, national security would not only be limited to the military prowess as the need for energy and food security would increase.

Are we rich enough to keep generating electricity from imported fuel? The SAPM questioned. Babar said that 41 percent of electricity in the country was being generated from imported fuel which is not good for Pakistan's energy security.

Now the government is changing its energy sector situation as we cannot move forward with the methods adopted in the past, he said. Babar urged to pay much attention on bio-fuel, saying that in the past not much attention was put into it, despite the fact that world is generating electricity using this fuel.

Just days ago, Babar announced that the federal government would not continue its footprint in the LNG industry. “We went ahead with the open access to the pipelines, terminals and there is no bar on setting up LNG terminal by private sector," he added.
