Sindh extends deadline for filing property, professional tax
- Excise and Taxation minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla warned that in case of non-payment of tax, the defaulting shops and houses would not only be fined but it might be sealed.
Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla has directed the department to extend the deadline for filing property and professional tax by January 31. The provincial minister announced this while presiding over the reviewing meeting in Karachi on Wednesday. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA warned that in case of non-payment of tax, the tax defaulting shops and houses would not only be fined but it might be sealed. Last month, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) extended the deadline to file the income tax returns for the Tax Year 2018-2019, according to a circular it issued on December 31. People can now file their income tax returns/statements until January 31, 2020, according to the FBR circular. The extension comes as part of the government’s efforts to bring more and more people into the tax net and document the country’s economy. The previous deadline expired on December 31, 2019 after an extension of 15 days.
