Hong Kong shares end 1.02 percent higher

HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares closed 1.02 percent higher following upbeat manufacturing data from China and the United States, lifting optimism about the world's two biggest economies.

The Hang Seng Index rose 214.87 points to 21,309.08 on turnover of HK$57.85 billion ($7.46 billion).

Chinese shares closed up 1.76 percent. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares,  jumped 42.12 points to 2,438.44 on turnover of 124.0 billion yuan ($19.7 billion).
