CHICAGO: Chrysler will recall nearly 250,000 vehicles in the United States to fix an ignition key unit defect which can cause the engine to stall or shut off while driving, safety regulators reported Thursday.

Chrysler said it is aware of two rear-end collisions allegedly arising from the defect with the key holder, which can spring back and get stuck in the accessory-only position if it gets jolted by the driver or a bump in the road.

The defect affects 2010 model years of the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, and Dodge Journey sport utility vehicles.
