The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will meet on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK).

The meeting has been convened on China's request. This will be the second meeting since a similar one was convened on China's request when India revoked the special status granted to IoK in August.

“In view of the seriousness of the situation and the risk of further escalation, China would like to echo the request of Pakistan, and request a briefing of the Council ... on the situation of Jammu and Kashmir,” China’s U.N. mission wrote in a note to council members.

In a letter to the UNSC on December 12, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed his concerns that the situation in IoK will further escalate. The situation in Iok remains tense as the curfew imposed by the Indian government enters its fifth month.
