(Karachi) Senior Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed has said that the number of women judges in courts is not enough and the judiciary is taking measures to increase their strength.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed said this while addressing the opening session of the three-day ‘Women Judges Conference’ on Friday.

He said that as compared to the overall population the strength of female judges is not sufficient.  He maintained that women play a vital role in the development and prosperity of the country. “The presence of female judges in Pakistan is a welcoming sign,” Justice Gulzar remarked.

He pointed out that half of Pakistan’s population comprises of women. He said, “We are taking steps to increase the number of women judges across Pakistan.”

He said that it is essential to take concrete measures to bring the women at the forefront in all spheres of life.

Justice Gulzar said a society cannot prosper without the support and cooperation of women. “Today’s women Judges’ Conference is the voice of the judiciary,” he remarked.

The senior judge highlighted that it is imperative to boost the morale of the women judges. “Providing adequate facilities to them is our responsibility.”
