Tokyo rubber rises

Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) futures rose on Tuesday, tracking strong Shanghai futures, helped by hopes for positive signs from US President Donald Trump's speech on trade policy later in the day.

TOCOM's rubber contract for April delivery finished 1.5 yen ($0.0137) higher at 180 yen per kg.

The most-active rubber contract on the Shanghai futures exchange for January delivery rose 80 yuan ($11.44) to finish at 12,080 yuan per tonne.

China's new technically specified rubber (TSR) 20 futures contract was last up 155 yuan at 10,310 yuan per tonne US President Donald Trump is scheduled to discuss the country's trade policy at the Economic Club of New York on Tuesday, which will be closely watched by investors anxious for any positive news about his administration's long-running trade war with China.

TOCOM's TSR 20 futures contract for May delivery closed at 148.9 yen per kg.

The front-month rubber contract on Singapore's SICOM exchange for December delivery last traded at 136.6 US cents per kg, up 1.4%.

The US dollar was quoted around 109.21 yen, compared with around 109.04 yen on Monday afternoon.
