Free media inevitable for growth of democracy: Kaira

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Thursday the present democratic government believes in freedom of expression and considers media freedom inevitable for growth of democracy.

This he said while a chairing a high level meeting at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting after taking charge of the ministry following allocation of the portfolio on Wednesday evening. Earlier on his arrival at the ministry along with Minister of State Sumasam Ali Bukhari he was received by Secretary Information and Broadcasting Taimur Azmat Osman and other senior officials.

Kaira said that the government was determined to provide maximum facilities to the media in the country.

The minister also said that the affairs of the ministry will be run with the team spirit and discipline.

Speaking on the occasion Syed Sumsam Bukhari said that there was a great need to promote true and soft image of not only Pakistan but the entire Ummah and media can play a key role in this regard.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Information, heads of attached departments and other senior officials of the ministry.
