ISLAMABAD: Former Ambassador Nazar Abbas said basic purpose of democracy is that no one can go against the decision of masses.
He added that the whole world including the US and opposing parties inside Pakistan must respect the unanimously approved parliamentary recommendations.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, about the Pak-US relations in the light of Defence Committee meeting he said that the United States should respect the unanimously approved Parliamentary recommendations.
He said Parliament has now delineated that every agreement with the US will be in black and white rather than verbal as had been during dictatorship.
He said drone attacks should be stopped as Parliament has recommended.
Nazar Abbas further said the US should have to accept the recommendations about the national interest of Pakistan.
He said whatever relations the US has with Iran, but gas pipeline project is in the national interest of Pakistan, therefore, despite of disliking, the US should have to accept it.
He added that it will be against the democracy, if the recommendations of representative body are not considered.
Talking to Radio Pakistan former ambassador Mushtaq Mehr commenting on meeting between Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and US Senior Advisor and special representative on Pakistan Robin Raphel, said there are various reservations of political parties and security agencies regarding re-engagements with the US.
As the parliament decided that the drone attacks must be ended and the way for transporting of ammunitions and strategic support via Pakistan must not be allowed, he added.
He said the government is interpreting it on its own way.
He added that government is of the view that drone attacks are not regular attacks. So, keeping in view the reservations it is required that negotiations must be held with the US on new terms of engagements, he added.
