Zardari, Gilani greet Rabbani's son as new Chairman Peace Council

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Saturday congratulated Salahuddin Rabbani, the son of late Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani, on his election as Chairman of the Afghan Peace Council.

In their separate messages the President and the Prime Minister prayed for his success in the mission initiated by his father to bring peace to the war ravaged country.

They said the assassination of late Professor Rabbani was a set back to the peace process, however hoped that Salahuddin would carry forward his father's mission.

The President and the Prime Minister said Pakistan desires peace and stability in Afghanistan, as it was vital for the prosperity of the entire region.

They said Pakistan would continue to support an Afghan-owned and an Afghan-led peace process for lasting peace in the country.
