KARACHI: Acting President FPCCI Mirza Abdul Rehman on Wednesday invited Chinese investors to invest in energy, infrastructure, agriculture, industry and agriculture sectors of Pakistan which have great potential.
He was talking to a visiting Chinese trade delegation at Federation House, the headquarters of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) here.
The delegation from China's Sichuan province was led by Chairman China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). Vice President FPCCI Shakil Ahmed Dhingra, former vice presidents FPCCI Dawood Usman Jakhura, Engr. Muhammad Usman Shaikh, Muhammad Mansha Chhurra, M.Zubair Tufail, President Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Begum Salma Ahmed, Chairman Pak-China Business Council Mazhar Nasir and members of FPCCI Executive Committee attended the meeting and discussed various issues relating to the bilateral trade.
Acting President FPCCI Mirza Abdul Rehman emphasized the promotion of regional trade. China is one of few economic powers of the world and she is an important partner in Pakistan's economic development and mutual trade. This is proved by a large scale financial and technical support given by China for mega development projects in Pakistan, he said.
The volume of bilateral trade during last fiscal year was dollars six billion, he said.
He underlined the need for exchange of more trade delegations between the two countries for promotion trade and investment. Chairman Pak-China Business Council at FPCCI Mazhar Nasir stressed on promotion of trade and investment of the two countries. He gave proposals in this regard including holding of single country exhibition in China and Pakistan's permanent participation there.
He highlighted the role Pak-China Business Council in promotion of the mutual investment and trade.
The Chinese delegates also emphasized on increased interaction between the two business communities. Participation in each other's trade fairs would help achieve the objective, they said.
Director General FPCCI Mir Nasir Abbas told that FPCCI has very good business interaction with Yunnan and Sichuan provinces of China over last four years. It has established its office there. The credit went to Tariq Sayeed, the Patron-in-Chief of Pak-China Business Council and former president FPCCI, President SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said.
He said that Yunnan province has given rotating presidency to Pakistan. Last year, Sri Lanka held the position, he said. Eighty member delegation from FPCCI will participate in three-day international trade fair in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, scheduled to start from June 5, 2012.
Pakistani exhibitors will also participate in Commodities exhibition to be held on the sideline to begin on June 10, 2012. Mir Nasir said that Pakistani businessmen's participation in the annual exhibition being held in Chingdu , the capital of Sichuan province , in October has increased manifold.
He said that more than 40 Pakistani exhibitors amongst those participating in international trade fair in Kunming will move to Chingdu trade fair scheduled from 15 to 19 June, 2012.
