Thar-Coal to produce 50,000 MW electricity: Dr Samar

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Thar-Coal Project Dr Samar Mubarak Mand on Wednesday said that rich potential is available in Thar-Coal to produce 50,000 mega watt (MW) electricity and 100 million barrel diesel.

Pakistan holds sufficient natural resources to generate cheap electricity and gas, he stated this while talking to PTV.

"Thar-Coal project can make Pakistan economically strong", he said.

Replying to a question he said that producing electricity through Furnace Oil is very expensive.

Dr Samar said that electricity should be generated through gas or diesel which is cheap and less expensive.

"We have provided the formula of gasifier to the industrialists which they are using very effectively", he said.

"There is a serious need to focus on exploiting the natural resources for producing cheap electricity and gas", Dr Samar said.

Replying to another question he said "We have sufficient coal reserves in the country which can be utilized to produce cheap electricity and gas for 500 years."

"There is need to bring improvement in the energy sector and for this, concrete measures should be taken to achieve the results, " he said.
