ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday directed immediate resumption of work on Lyari Expessway and said a Malaysian company was working to expedite work on the M-9 Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway.
He was talking to a MQM delegation comprising Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Dr Farooq Sattar, Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghauri, Minister of State for Overseas Ahsan Nadeem here at the PM Secretariat.
The delegation apprised the Prime Minister about the progress on the mega projects like Lyari Expressway, Karachi-Hyderabad M-9 motorway, Karachi Circular Railway and K-4 Water Supply Scheme for the Karachi residents.
The Prime Minister said funds will be allocated for the immediate resumption of work on Lyari Expressway as 70 percent of the project has already been completed.
About the M-9 Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway, the Prime Minister said that the Malaysian firm has signed the agreement to undertake the project under BOT for which the company is actively engaged to mobilize its resources on fast track basis.
On the Karachi Circular Railway, the delegation said that JICA was willing to extend loans of $.1 billion on soft terms for its completion and would provide respectable and efficient public transport facility to the residents of Karachi.
On K-4 Water Supply Scheme, being a provincial subject, the Prime Minister said he would ask the provincial government to prioritize the project in view of the pressing needs of water supply for the residents of the Metropolis.
The Prime Minister also directed to review the PC-1 estimates of the project which seemed to be on the higher side.
The Prime Minister also directed Senator Syeda Sughra Imam, who was present during the meeting, to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance, Planning Division and Government of Sindh in this regard and also keep the Prime Minister abreast of the progress on the mega projects on regular basis.
The MQM delegation thanked the Prime Minister for taking keen interest in the mega projects of Karachi.
