  • Trump said both leaders of nuclear countries have 'got to work it out'.
  • Will do whatever I can, be it arbitration or mediation, Trump tells Pakistan, India.
  • US president hoped that ties between neighbors get better.

Stressing that Pakistan and India are at very serious odds now, US President Donald Trump said that he held productive conversations with Prime Minister Imran Khan and Indian PM Narendra Modi and told them to 'work it out'.

Addressing a presser after attending the United Nations General Assembly, Trump said he held meetings with both the leaders and also discussed Kashmir issue. The US president once again reiterated his offer to mediate between Pakistan and India on Kashmir, which Modi has repeatedly rejected.

"And whatever help I can be, I said — I offered, whether it’s arbitration or mediation, or whatever it has to be, I’ll do whatever I can. Because they’re at very serious odds right now, and hopefully that’ll get better," Trump added.

Trump further said that both Khan and Modi are his good friends and are heading two nuclear countries and have 'got to work it out'. "I said, Fellas, work it out.  Just work it out," Trump told the presser.

Tensions between Pakistan and India have soared since August 5, when the Indian government unilaterally annexed Indian occupied Kashmir and revoked a special status given to the territory. The government also imposed a curfew and communications blackout. The lock down has continued for over 50 days.
