Three million to benefit from lease, ownership rights: CM

KARACHI: Some three million people would benefit from the grant of lease and ownership rights to the dwellers of goths and katchi abadis.

This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, here on Saturday.

He was addressing a big public meeting at Safoora Goth here to grant ownership rights to the dwellers of goths and katchi abadis.

Qaim Ali Shah said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had promised to provide shelter to the poor and the needy. This promise was also made by President Asif Ali Zardari.

"Today we have gathered here to fulfil this very promise for provision of shelter in accordance with the manifesto of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)," he remarked.

Chief Minister said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto came to Pakistan on October 18, 2007, for the realisation of the rights of the masses.

He stated that she challenged the then dictatorship and owing to her historic struggle democracy was restored in Pakistan and on February 8, 2008 people voted for the PPP.

Qaim Ali Shah said that the present government in accordance with the vision and programme of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, would continue to serve the people.

He pointed out that sometime ago lease/ ownership rights were given to various goths in Bin Qasim area here.

Chief Minister said that today we are also extending lease/ ownership rights to dwellers of more than 110 goths/ katchi abadis and that this will benefit more than three million people.

He said that during the past four years, the government in accordance with the manifesto of the PPP made every endeavour to serve the masses.

Qaim Ali Shah said that job opportunities were made available, youngsters were provided training in various skills to get better employment here as well as abroad.

He stated that practical measures were also undertaken for elimination of poverty. Every possible steps was taken for accomplishing the promise `Rozgar sab kay leay'.

President of PPP Karachi Division, Senator Faisal Raza Abidi, also addressed the gathering.

He said that promise was made to give lease to old goths of Karachi in three months time.

However, this promise has been accomplished in two and a half months' time.

He lauded the cooperation extended by Syed Qaim Ali Shah and PPP leader Syed Owais Muzaffar.

Senator Faisal Raza Abidi said that President Asif Ali Zardari has given directive that all the old goths in the province of Sindh especially in the city of Karachi be given ownership rights.

He said that the present government also undertook steps against land mafia and 1,100 acres of land was recovered.

On arrival at the venue of the public meeting, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Senator Faisal Raza Abidi and Syed Owais Muzaffar were given a warm welcome. The people as well as the PPP workers chanted welcome slogans.

Special Assistants to CM Sindh, Rashid Rabbani, Waqar Medhi, Coordinator to CM, Siddiq Abu Bhai and PPP leaders were also present on the occasion.
