President Zardari felicitates Christians on Easter

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated the Christians on the occasion of Easter and vowed to work for the promotion of human equality, religious tolerance and interfaith harmony.

"I felicitate the Christians of the world, both within Pakistan and abroad, and wish them a blessed Easter," the President said in a message on the occasion of Easter on April 8.

The President assured the minorities that the policy of equality, freedom and security for all minorities, including Christians, as guaranteed in the Constitution and as promised by the Qauid-e-Azam and Quaid-e-Awam will continue and that there will be no compromise on it.

He also reiterated the pledge to safeguard the right of all minorities to freely profess and practice their religion.

The President also paid tribute to the Christian brothers and sisters as "law-abiding and loyal citizens". He said that the nation was proud of their great contributions to the advancement and development of the country.

Tha President said that Easter this year was most auspicious as for the first time in country's history four members of minorities communities had been elected to the Upper House of Parliament on seats reserved for them.

"Let us on this day dedicate ourselves to interfaith harmony and to the progress and prosperity of all sections of the society," the President said in his message.
