Former Pakistan captain-turned-cricket commentator Ramiz Raja has dismissed Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) idea of introducing dual roles in Pakistan cricket and has also voiced against the likely appointment of Misbah-ul-Haq as chief selector and head coach. “The idea of dual roles can work in the western block where the administration is professional with proper checks and balance, but experimenting with such concept in Pakistan cricket is not without its dangers as it is impractical and unsuitable because it has never happened before," Ramiz said in a video on YouTube. “So in my view Pakistan cricket should not conduct such experiment. The role of coach should be kept separate and selection committee should be announced separately,” Ramiz added. Raja’s statement comes after media reports stated that the PCB is looking to introduce a dual role with former Pakistan captain Misbah likely to be appointed both as the chief selector and head coach of the Pakistan cricket team. Speaking about Misbah, who is among the strong contenders for the role, the former captain said that Pakistan cricket needs to take its decision as per its DNA and introduce a think tank, which can make Pakistan play modern day cricket. “Pakistan should be looking to introduce aggressive mindsets as per the demand of the modern game, Misbah, unfortunately, is known to have played safe and secure cricket and has been successful in only few conditions, whereas, Pakistan needs a team for all seasons,” he said. Ramiz further said that Pakistan needs to produce a strong, entertaining and aggressive cricket in order to change the fortunes of their game. Just days ago, the PCB announced that it would not extend the contracts of former head coach Mickey Arthur and other coaching staff after Pakistan failed to qualify for the semifinals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and finished only at the fifth spot.
