Poll reveals public prefers Jeremy Hunt over Boris Johnson to become next British PM

A recent poll has revealed that Boris Johnson is not the favourite among the public to become Britain’s next prime minister as the people have shown preference for his rival British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

The poll, conducted by YouGov, found that Hunt is now the favourite among the general public. Of the 1,686 people asked who they thought would be a good PM, 25 percent said Johnson while 28 percent said Hunt. This is the same poll in which earlier nearly a third had backed Johnson.

However, in the latest poll, more than a quarter of the public believe that the foreign secretary would be a good PM. Johnson, however, still remains the favourite among the Conservative voters. He is ahead by 48 percent to Hunt's 39 percent.

A Hunt campaign source said that Hunt remains the underdog but this poll shows that they have got the momentum. "He' is clearly the candidate best trusted to beat Corbyn," Dailymail quoted the source.

This latest preference by the public may be related to Johnson's campaign being rocked by the fallout from a heated row with his partner Carrie Symonds in which the police were called to their south London home by the neighbours.
