Talking to media persons here at Allama Iqbal International Airport, she said, "The National Security Committee of the parliament has submitted its recommendations to the parliament and the matters like restoration of NATO supplies and new terms of engagement will be discussed with the US after decision by the parliament."
On the question of 50 locomotives from the US, she said the demand could be part of the package once the government enters into consultations with the US with due seal of the parliament.
To a query, Dr Firdous said the law and order situation had improved a great deal since last four year in power of the PPP-led government, adding that terrorism had also been checked.
"Could you think of holding a press conference in public, some four years ago, as you stand here today", she responded.
About the energy crisis, the Minister said the PPP-led government had added 1900 MW to the national grid despite the fact it had inherited crises from the previous regimes, asserting that the provincial governments were equally responsible to produce electricity after the 18th amendment.
Regarding price-hike prices, she said it was international economic phenomenon but the federal government was taking measures to address all the issues.
Regarding contempt of court case against the Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, she said the Prime Minister is a citizen of Pakistan and every Pakistani citizen has the right to fair trial, adding that one does not come across any such precedence where a person shows no-confidence in the bench and the bench is not-reconstituted.
"The matter of immunity to the President can be referred to the parliament by the apex court as was done in the judges appointment case," she responded.
To another query, the Minister said the matter was sub-judice and the parliament could not take suo motu like the court, adding that parliament would debate on the issue if it is referred by the court.
About reshuffling of the cabinet, the minister said change in the cabinet is the prerogative of the Prime Minister and he could reshuffle people as captain of the team.
About Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif's recent remarks, Dr Firdous said the term 'Ali Baba and Forty Thieves' was ascribed to the Sharifs by the then dictator Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf after he put them behind the bars, adding that he had issued a charge-sheet against them in different cases including the money laundering case.
She said Shahbaz Sharif and other thieves submitted a plea bargain to their friend and benefactor Pervez Musharraf after confessing to all corruption and fled the country in the darkness of night.
Dr Firdous alleged the corruption of Sharifs was linked to the Mehran Bank Scandal adding that they should look for their faces in the Mehran Bank scandal.
The Minister lamented the fact that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had spent more public money on self-projection in the distirbution of laptops to the students in Punjab and wasted millions of rupees on his media campaign.
Dr Firdous paid a rich tribute to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari for introducing information technology in the country as well as launching Broadband service which made the use of laptops possible for the youth of Pakistan and opened vistas for economic progress in the country.
She felicitated all political forces, civil society and the media on the successful completion of the four years by the parliament, adding that dream of a distinct national identity, independent institutional structure and democracy which had been seen through the March 23 resolution was realised by the policies of the PPP-led democratically elected government.
She said the Prime Minister was the parliamentary head of a democratic government but the people had played havoc with the constitution for last 64 years and efforts were made to turn it into a presidnetial system or a weak parliamntary structure.
Dr. Firdous said the present government had restored the 1973 constituion to its true spirit in which all powers have been transferred to the parliament and the Prime Minister is the head of democratic structure in the country.
She paid glowing tributes to the political sagacity of Preisent Asif Ali Zardari who had borne the volatile criticism of the opponents with patience and took the allies along for the cause of democracy.
She urged all stake-holders to play their role in strengthening democracy as well as facing challenges faced by the country, adding that the all provincial governments must play their role in providing relief to the masses.
The Minister also highlighted the role of media for standing steadfast for the cause of democracy, adding that PPP government is a great supporter of the freedom of expression and the Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had revoked all draconian anti-media law which were promulgated by the dictatorial regimes in the past.
Dr Firdous called upon all institutions including the executive, parliament, judiciary and the media to play their role within the consitutionally defined parameters for the success of parliamentary democratic system in the country.
