BAGHDAD: Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said on Tuesday that his government had bought 600,000 tonnes of wheat so far from local farmers in this year's harvest.

State media quoted Abdul Mahdi as telling journalists in his weekly news conference that the government had paid farmers around 200 million Iraqi dinars ($160,000) of what it owes them.
